The Marston Road development in Lidlington, Bedford comprises the construction of 40 residential properties on a sloping site.
A particular challenge came from the presence of a slope to the south east of the site with mapped landslide deposits and proposals to cut into the toe of the slope that had the potential to become instable.
Walsh provided geotechnical consultancy to assess the slope stability at the site, including review of ground investigation data, initial appraisals and site visits, analysis of existing and proposed cases and an options appraisal for remedial work.
A solution loading the slope of the toe and introducing a counterfort drain system was reached. The earthworks and drainage specifications were then developed with Walsh geotechnical and civils teams working in collaboration.
